TAKE-OFF #2: Having seen some of the worthwhile stuff Raym can do, this seems a deplorable waste of his time & ours. FAN-TODS #9: Imagination-fantasy-sense may be basic for a like of stfantasy or math (among other things) but one or both may not be liked becoz of other influences. Or im plus x may equal fs, & im plus y may equal mathsense, but the x is not necessarily a constant, being made up of the various environMental influences to which a given individual has been subjected. & saying if im=fs; fen would be mathmen or vice versa is non sequitur. I think it's quite possible that a large majority of either class have the potentials of the other, but have not realized them becoz of extraneous influences. At any rate, hypothesizing a "fantasy sense", as a single well-defined trait is oversimplifying as much as if you said that persons fond of historical novels were so becoz they had a "historical "sense". It don't make sense nohow. Ayah. I hadn't thot of Slan Island as a long-term program, becoz i agree that it would tend to go downhill with pressure removed. I figured for only a generation or two at most, becoz the motive for such a drastic move would have to be quite a drastic upheaval in the culture, (or the imminence of same) which consequently would be stabilized in that short a time. Agreed that it might be impossible to get out, especially if our prognosticators couldn't see far enuf ahead, or if cautious conservatives prevailed, & that it might b preferable to go underground. If a study were made of retooling, & we had "duofacs" rather'n "Omnifacs", which would produce similar goods, the change-over might be made in as 12
