I always thot that anarchy permitted everyone to do just as they pleased period! No regard for the rights of others whatever. The dictionary seems to agree. But that's a minor point. "A republic requires time...to reach a decision, but that group of men, chosen by the people becoz they think so similarly to the people as a whole, usually come to the right decision." Well, well. So our long chain of decisions that led up to World War II were "right", were they? According to my history books we have made two in a row of the most horribly wrong decisions that any nation could possibly make. I also question the nation could possibly make. I also question the naive assumption that our leaders "think similarly to the people". Such men are in the minority. Ah yes, Lynn, you make out a nice case for capitalism vs communism. The only trouble is that Russia isn't communist, & is becoming less so all the time. Find out what USSR stands for some time. Socialism is the latest form (for large nations) & therefore even more progressive than capitalism. Incidentally, a strong case can, & has been, made out comparing capitalism to feudalism, which would put capitalism in the doghouse with communism & dictatorship. Sure, the Russians are fighting for themselves. Who the hell isn't? But let's give credit where credit is due. I shudder to think where we would be if th Russians had given up. According to the Hearsts, McCormicks, Nyes, et al, the Soviets are a nasty old dictatorship & belong in the same category with the Nazis. If they had so much in common, why did they fight so stubbornly? Why didn't they throw in with Hitler? Together with Japan they could have tromped the democracies right into the ground.
