Return To The Future ************************************************************ records, 'Omega,' the invading star, shall swing around the sun between the orbits of Mercury and Venus, the innermost planets now wiped out; and our earth will then be in a true binary system. Also, there are periods of eclipse, every few months, sometimes prolonged, as the dark star passes between the earth and sun. But now we have nothing to fear. "The few survivors from the end of the world were eventually able to compute the course of Omega and they find that we are safe . . . safe from planetary destruction, at least." "And so what! . . . " Myron mused, half aloud. "For what gain did all this happen? . . " "It was an act of One Higher Up, I believe," replied the girl. "He never intended that Man should investigate the Future, for men would have become like gods. But Man's sense of fatalism was his downfall. He exterminated them by their own folly, even as it became necessary to do, back in the Biblical days, when men build a tower by which to enter Heaven . . ."the Tower of Babel . . . and again, when, by their degeneracy, He brought His wrath upon men in the Great Flood. . . . " "But what of these past survivors?" "They realized the tings learned by you to be forthcoming facts. These were the survivors of both factions. And although the Acceptors could boast of no material gain, the Heavens had shown the Future to be undeviating. For the world now lay in its ashes, as the Time Flight of you, Myron, had revealed.
