34. Science Adventure Stories *********************************************************** Collier, his trusted old aid, now 87, collapsed in the midst of some minor experiment. Gerald Curry sprang into action. Working his tired, ninety year old body for eighteen hours a day, he developed what he believed a serum for immortality; it took him but three weeks! Experimentally he injected a tiny dose of the serum into himself, and nothing no ill effects tried it upon his friend of three quarters of a century. Not a very large dose, but the effects were almost instantaneous. Jack recovered from an almost fatal illness within twelve hours and before a weeks had passed seemed to have shed almost ten years from his bowed shoulders. Success@ In his first wave of enthusiasm he wanted to prepare a much larger quantity of the life giving fluid and for all time make him and his companion immortal. Then from out of nowhere there sprang a warning chord. A persistent inner voice commanding him to stop. Stop and wait. Ceral Curry did wait. One day he sensed that the unusual was about to occur. It was then he retired to the huge amphitheatre where he could be alone. Alone in the sense of the word only for he had prepared, and prepared well. Then it happened! Out of the very air a flashing, swirling mass of unharmonious color---spinning madly, in ever widening circles. An awe inspiring scene to be sure, but old Geral Curry did not seem impressed. In fact it might be said that just the slightest trace of boredom flicked across his expressive features as he patiently watched the chaotic blend of color lose its tone, and from its mists resolved the figure of a man. As the haze cleared Gerald Curry strained his eyes to obtain a clear view of the individual.
