[illustration of a skyscrapers and planes] [handwritten] THE EDITOR SPEAKS [typewritten] It is with some feeling of pride that COMET PUBLICATIONS issues this September-October number. The last issue of the COLLECTOR received many bouquets. On the whole, the majority of those who wrote in stated that the 14th issue of the COLLECTOR was the best issue of any hectoed magazine that ever appeared. They liked the appearance, the number of pages for the price, the variety of articles presented in the issue, the art work, and, the hectographing. At the time I am writing this, not a single lick of work has been done on the 15th issue, but from all indications from the material I've received, it looks as if it will be just as good as the 14th issue. Someone has raised the question that we have too many columns. I agree that we have a large number of regular columns. But, then again, which columns do you want us to drop? From those to whom I propounded this question, it seems unanimous to keep all the columns, since they all are different - more or less - and, good. We are presenting a new column this issue. It is entitled "English Epigrams," by Ted Carnell. As you may gather by the title, this too will be a different type of column from the ones already presented. He are resuming this issue, Dak Kyle's illustrated, "Earth Expeditionary Forces." Of course, I can't help but mention that we need your support. If you fail to resubscribe, or obtain other subscribers, we may not be able to continue publishing a large COLLECTOR. As is, due to conflicting school programs the COLLECTOR will have to be issues every other month. Unfortunately, I haven't the time to issue the COLLECTOR every month. Though for that matter, there is also the problem of material. While I have enough material for a few more issues, I don't wish to be forced into a predicament in which I have not material for the magazine. We are happy to announce that we will be able to resume "The Readers Say" this issue. I know that most of you like to read the other fellow's opinions, accordingly, I intend to make this department at least one page every issue. Will you please write in and tell us what you think of the magazine, any suggestions for improvements, etc.? With this issue, we are annexing three new artists to our staff: James H. Rogers, Niles Frome [sic Nils Frome?], and Jack Agnew. I'd like to have your reactions towards their work. Some of our readers are weird fans as well as science fiction fans. In an attempt to please them, we are publishing a weird short story in this issue. I'd like a vote from every reader as to whether or not he'd like a weird story every now and then.. Of course, if its reception is unfavorable, we'll not use that type of story in the future. See you again, in the November-December issue (which, we hope, will appear in a shorter interval than this issue) .... .... ----THE EDITOR----
