Page 12 Science Fiction Collector Lastly, to make the gathering complete, your columnist Carnell, still pegging at the racket despite the rebuffs. LONDON ACTIVITIES — Since birth of Britain's SFA early this year, fans all over the country have united In a grand effort to make the Association a success. HQ have brought out several ideas calculated to stimulate interest, not the least being a section of amateur stf yarns judged by a special COUNCIL which includes authors Pragnell and Herbert, Hanson, a Dr. Glbson and, once again Carnall. Stories are allotted marks for science, writing, plot, etc., and the best will be issued In booklet form by the SFA, London fans mentioned previously are planning a meeting of Metropolitan fans on October 3, when over 30 will gather. This is the first attempt at organization in London, though suggestions have been rampant before. Owing to Douglas Mayer passing exams to Leeds U, he will have to resign SFA Secretaryship,, and the reins will probably pass to London, when I prophesy that either Williams or Chapman will take over. MODERN WONDER — Mentioned In Vol. 3 No 2 COLLECTOR in no way resembles the old SCOOPS. Is in fact a part science, part blood and thunder booklet published to interest the very juveniles. Has formed a "League of Science* akin to old "Wonder SFL* but details are seldom. If ever, published about its activities. TALES OF WONDER — Made a more favorable appearance than was expected, Editor Gilllngs putting in much hard work endeavoring to suit all tatses [sic 'tastes'?]. Fan reaction to the mag logged mainly disappointment — they expected something better than ASTOUNDING to start with, but most of them now realize that the mag was produced to interest a new field of readers. No details are yet available as to sales, the mag probably staying on News-stands for four months or so. First hint from publish was favorable, stating a further issue would be required, but more recent remarks are not so favorable. NOVAE TERRAE — Sojourn of Maurice Hanson and Denny Jacques In London has left, them in a quandary as to how their map will be produced. Printing is still in the air (certain plans for a small press not having materialized as yet), so to save death of this pioneer mag, it will be duplicated by your columnist Carnell on BIS machine. A number of new features will be incorporated in the production, including folded and stapled pages and blue ink. Issue due the end of September. NEW BRITISH SERIAL — Weekly periodical "Passing Show," famed for science fiction serials which have included "When Worlds Collide" and the sequel, several Burroughs' yarns and, more recently, Harris' "Stowaway to Mars.* They are now presenting "When London Fell* by W. Passlngham. Story features subsidence of London into a vast underground cavern which has been sealed off from the world for thousands of years, and still contains pre-historic monsters, reptiles, etc., and a race of men. Fantaglimmerings (continued from page 4) James V. Taurasi states that the future, COSMIC TALES may be mimeographed, will contain a photo-offset cover, and will be illustrated by hectograph inks. Taurasi may publish a COSMIC TALES ANNUAL. If and when it is published, it will be printed. Kuttner may write a sequel to "When the Earth Lived," which was published in the October THRILLING WONDER STORIES... And so, until next month --- Adios.
