Science Fiction Collector Page 19 THE READERS SAY T. Bruce Yerke writes: Well, well, Your issue of the SCIENCE FICTION COLLECTOR was just if not better than what Morris S. turned out, Madle's column "Fantaglimmerings" was pretty good. "Gone are the Days" by Sam Moskowitz was OK too. Page Six made a good filler, and was interesting. "The Eternal Wanderer" presented interesting peaks. "Fan Mag Review* is pretty good. "The New Yorkers?" Man, you've got something there. As far as I'm concerned you can leave "Lessons in Super Science" out, it's the only thing I didn't like. Donald A. Wollheim says: The new COLLECTOR is good. I agree that you have succeeded in passing Dollens' high standard 13th issue. The issue was done well, came out well, and of high content. Madle's column isn't shining with originality. Moskowitz's article is oddly enough quite good — an outline of one type of fan movement. "Tale of a Story" isn't a science fiction story — regardless of what external appearances may be. "The Amtorlan Alphabet* was of course outstanding (hmmm.) Lowndes' "Sadness" Is one of the best things I've seen of his. And I've read a lot of his stuff. Well, anyway it was a swell issue. Morris Dollens sends in: Now to the 14th COLLECTOR — Good job... better than I ever did -- swell cover reproduction swell lettering on contents page -- but the ads are the best I've e̲v̲e̲r̲ seen in any stf mag!!! And the material was interesting... Dick Wilson writes: Received the SCIENCE FICTION COLLECTOR a few days ago and have read it from cover to cover, which is something I rarely do with fan mags; compliment #1. Cover is better than the 13th issue. I like the number of pages - 20, Nice Editorial. Contents page: Who's the nude bowler supposed to be? Morris, of course, wouldn't know, but you might have some ideas, Very well drawn. "Fantaglimmerings" is a lousy title, but the article itself is well done. "Gone are the Days" I find to be quite so. "The Amtorian Alphabet;" Yes, indeed -- quite so. "The Eternal Wanderer" is excellent. The Fan Magazine Review is interesting, tho you might enlarge it to two pages. Ted Carnell says; Just a hurried note to thank and congratulate you over the new S~F COLLECTOR, which has just arrived here. I was so pleased with the make-up and contents of the mag, that I immediately sat down and ripped off the accompanying article, hoping that it may be of use to you. John Chapman writes: Format of the 14th COLLECTOR is excellent. The large size is really neat stuff. It gives you much more room for larger drawings and better printing. The manner of binding is swell --- three staples and brown paper covering. Hektoing; Super stuff ... light and slightly hazy in spots but just the same it's the first fan mag I ever read straight through without the help of a magnifying glass. Colors; very, very super, The cover is neat. Inside stuff varied sufficiently to balance the purple printing. Contents page: the best I've seen in any fan mag. The articles by Madle, Moskowitz, and Rothman are darn good. Hang lt all I can't find one thing wrong with your mag. Congrats. The ad on the back of the mag is swell. When are ya gonna publish SAS (Before the XMAS holidays arrive - Editor). James E. Taurasi writes: The best job of hectoing I've seen yet. All material OK.
