9 After leaving the palace the Iowans moved on to the Union Interallie and beheld Marshal Foch for the second time today. The Sioux City band presented a couple stirring marches in front of the building once used for the entertainment of kings. So also did the Fort Dodge drum corps. A band from Miami, Florida was also present for this function, it being both less empressive and less exclusive than the Domergue reception. Marshal Foch came to the door, with Mrs Macauley and Mr Savage, long enough to applaud one of the band numbers and give the thousand persons present a glimpse of his irresistible smile and twinkling eyes. S.C. Band plays again - 9 And now for Eiffel tower. I began my ascent by hydraulic lift at about noon and at 3 o'clock I was still on the top - most landing regretting that a 4 o'clock engagement made it necessary for me to leave. The day was beautiful and there was a view in all directions of at least 40 miles. All of Paris, the most beautiful city in Europe if not in all the world, lay at our feet, with its glistening slate roofs and its incomparable system of parks and boulevards.
