February 11, 1944
Dear Earl:-
Thank you for your Nov 23rd letter.  I am delighted to know that Thelma Estevez is setting the campus "on its ear".  The miraculous part is that she combines beauty with brains and good manners.  It seems that gnomes were doing their darndest to keep her from going to Ames.  A couple of us organized "The Crandon Travel Aid Fund" to get Thelma to the States and since then we've sent another girl to Oregon State.
I can well imagine how busy you are these days.  I feel just a little cheated to be out of the U. S. during the war, - but the War Department seems to think differently.  Everybody is on the West Coast (Santiago) attending our 7th Convention except me and I'm tied to the camp for the whole summer, but its a grand assignment.
