Belgium 29 Oct 44 Dear Earl, Am forwarding a couple of "Stars & Stripes" to give you an idea of what Punchy Editorals we are getting every day - That is, if the Paper reaches us. I have been in Germany and saw the refugee operation referred to. It isn't as bad - or should I say "as good" as one would gather from this - and it has caused some interest among troops, naturally. Consequently, we're expecting some sort of correction, following a visit of a S & S reporter here yesterday. I'm sure I regret more than you do the circumstances that prevented us from seeing each other. It was probably as good for you - in as much as I would have jumped you with a thousand questions. Rather interesting - getting around Holland, Belgium, Germany, but rain, mud, cold & blackout make life pretty disagreeable at times, to say nothing of other factors such as enemy artillery & fly bombs.
