political network. Society is oh, la de da here. And I guess it is the major occupation for a great number of people here. The diplomatic whirl receives page after page in the Society Section of the newspapers. We think it very amusing, but I guess it has its importance for Kiplinger says, "Society is the warp and woof of governmental activity." We received such an interesting letter from Reeves. Of course we would, have liked to have had him come to Washington, but he knows best. One does learn a great deal here, but one moves in the seething masses and one feels quite infinitesimal. We have had some very interesting contacts. Among them are two British subjects who live here in this house. It has given us a good opportunity for study. We have a great deal of fun, and I would never have it said that the British have no sense of humor. However, they never forget that they are British and we never forget that we are Americans. Which, of course, I think is an error because we should all learn to consider ourselves as citizens of this world and forget the d - - - nationalism if we are going to break down prejudices and eliminate wars. It is difficult to think of Reeves "out launching his career", Marge, attending university and Nancy so grown up. Time is simply flying too fast. I do hope that things will work out so that we will get to see you before long. We have always had such good times with you, and you know, we always count you as part of the family. Don't you, Earl, have any occasion to come to Washington? Don't you have any union troubles, or shouldn't you come in any do some lobbying for more paper for the Press? So many of our friends do come - and bring their wives! So how about it? With warm greetings to all. Love Selma P.S. Forgot to tell you that my brother Don is in Hawaii manages to take some movies. Hopes to have his wife brought over some time but chances are poor so far.
