Blodgett: (14 November 1951) Iowa City Taxi Cabs 157.____ [mc? mv?] Iowa City Hotel Station { 152.27 [mc? mv?] { 152.29 [mc? mv?] ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16 November 1951 Norman Ramsey said that "they" (at Columbia) had had the idea some years ago of checking Einstein's general relativity by measuring some atomic frequency (as [hyperfine?] splitting) on top of a mountain then in the deepest possible mine to get connection between gravitational potential and time scale (?) ala general relativity. Said that it seemed to be on the borderline of feasibility. I suggested a rocket at 100 miles as offering a much greater possible effect. Ramsey agreed to look at the numbers again. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 4 June 1952 I saw Ramsey about a month ago in Washington, D.C. He said that the actual numbers looked rather hopelessly small (at present)
