Dr. V. T. Frye of A.P.L. On Friday 18 February 1955 I received a call from Paul Larson (now President of Borg-Warner in Chicago) saying that they have a (or ?? hope to get) - (I'm not quite clear on this in retrospect) a large contract on System 107A of the U.S. Air Force - also known as project M X 1593 or I.B.M. (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile). See Newsweek of 21 February 1955, pages 26-27 for a general idea. Larson is attempting to assemble a management staff, technical staff and consultants for the job. Problems: Overall System Hypersonic aerodynamics Thermodynamics Materials (high temperatures) Instrumentation Telemetering & transmission of data (No propulsion - Aerojet & Convair will do)
