In State University of Iowa lecture several weeks ago John Simpson remarked that on the 19 November 1949 solar flare (Elliott) there was probably a 20 fold increase of primary cosmic radiation. Also noted that a 27 day rotation of sun = 27- 2= 25 days apparent period on earth. Also stated that the energy spectrum of the solar component of [C.R.? O.R.?] is considerably steeper than the general spectrum. (?) ---------------------------------------- Anderson and McDonald back. McDonald had fine record of both scintillator and Cerenkov. Anderson had left off plastic green-house - probable reason for all seven Geiger counters being ruined - probably got too cold
