"Operations concluded following Loki explosion prior to launching. Ebel burned but recovering. Kasper and I continuing to Argentia to supervise disposal of gear. Frank". I called William E. Wright (Washington D.C., phone: Hemlock 4-8138) to relay message & to find out if he knew any more. Wright had dispatch late Friday which said: Loki ignited and detonated on deck prior to launching. Lt. Cdr. Ebel suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns on face, scalp, ear and right shoulder. Being hospitalized temporarily at Air Force Hospital in Harmon Field, Newfoundland. Only major casualty. Inquiry will be held. This was round #31. #32 was canceled.
