75 degrees [W.?] meridian approximately!} The discontinuity (or by virtue of the geometric similarity to the lower edge of the intense portion of our inner zone) is tentatively attributed to a ring current flowing in an atmospheric layer which is made exceptionally conductive by ionization by trapped particles in the inner zone. The question of the thinness of the layer (<~100 km) is under study by E. Ray.
