If it were, I assure you, I never would have in any way sponsored or favoured Micheliam: not only because I myself am not kindly disposed towards regimentation, but because the project of regimenting stf fans under any definite standard is quite impossible. There is no individualist so anchored in his individualism as the true stf fan. T. Bruce Yorke is quite correct in his analysis. Michelism is merely the idea that science fiction fans should do something toward making the ideals and dreams of science-fiction for a better (not a perfect world; not a utopia, but a better) world come true. What that "something" is, is entirely up to the individual. The fact that my "something" is Communism does not in any way imply that every science-fiction fan, who has arrived at that state of consciousness known as "Michelism" must become a Communist. (I may toy with the idea that eventually, with knowledge, they will turn to Communism, but that does not alter the facts. If it is a fact that Communism, as I believe, is the way out, then disbelief or conscious ignoring of it will not alter the fact; if, as you think, it is not true, then my beliefs will not change it. What I may say apropos stf fans looking into Communism, I say as a Michelist whose Michelism takes the form of Communism; I do not say it merely as a Michelist. You may call us a Red Michelist, if you like, but the adjective, while applicable to me, is not necessarily applicable to all michelists. Is that clear?) While we're conceding things, I will admit that Michel's speech and Resolution should not have been run together the way they were. Yet, despite this initial mistake, the influence has been a very large one. Large enough so that a few editors are worried. I might add that the Resolution was tacked on as an after-thought.
