August 29, 1985 Morris F. Johnson, President Iowa Black Network 2895 Boston Avenue Des Moines, Iowa 50310 Dear Morris: As I begin serving Iowans in the U.S. Senate, I want to ensure that I continue to get the best advice possible. Over the years, that advice has been from Iowans. I want Iowans from all parts of the state and with a diversity opinions to have the opportunity to let me know their views and concerns. In order to accomplish this objective, I have designated one of my staff members, Stephanie Hamlett to serve as a liaison with your organization. Stephanie will be available to listen and pass on to me your concerns about pending legislation and federal issues. She may attend meetings occasionally or meet with members of your organization to keep you updated on issues and hear your concerns. I would appreciate it if you would add Stephanie to your mailing list to receive meeting notifications and newsletters. This liaison position is not meant to alter any working relationships you have with my legislative staff in Washington, D.C. Hopefully, the Iowa liaison will ensure that a staff person is readily available to increase your access to me and to provide yo with services and information of the federal government. You may reach Stephanie by writing or calling 210 Walnut, Room 733 Federal Building, Des Moines, Iowa 50309; phone 515-284-4574. I hope the liaison operation will keep communications open between us; please keep in touch and I would welcome any suggestions you have. Sincerely, Tom Tom Harkin U.S. Senator TH/dl
