Madison Branch NAACP 720 7th Street Ft. Madison, Iowa 52627 Dear Virginia: I certainly appreciate receiving your letter dated January 21, 1978 with the attached letters addressed to Mr. Homer Brooks from Mr. Van Aken and the letter from the Ft. Madison Branch to Mr. Van Aken, as Executive Director, and the letter from Mr. Homer Brooks, asking for a hearing. In reading your letter, I note that there has been several occasions which other disturbing factors at the housing unit which were apparently overlooked for unexplained reasons. I agree with you, I don' t believe that the incident of November 23, 1977, was one which should summon the untenable position of the Executive Director to have Mr. Brooks evicted. I also note that the disturbance which he referred to could not have kept tenants up all night, unless they chose to be up all night for other reasons not attributed to the incident that happened prior to 10:00 p.m., inasmuch as Mr. Brooks was, as you pointed out, incarcerated. I have received a letter from Mr. Van Aken that the hearing has been set for Saturday, January 8, 1978, and I intend to be there. In the meantime, it might be helpful if when we discussed it Wednesday, that we make available any favorable witnesses for Mr. Brooks. Thanks again for forwarding me this information. Sincerely yours, [actual signature of first name] Bob Robert A. Wright RAW/pw
