718 - 7th Street February 25, 1981 Mr. Walter Smith - President ISP Branch, NAACP Box 316 Fort Madison, Iowa Dear Walter and Members if the ISP Board of the NAACP; The members of the Fort Madison, Branch, join me in expressing sincere appreciation for the beautiful bouquet of flowers which were presented to Mrs. Lois Eichacker, at our Freedom Fund Banquet. They were exquisite and all of us who have worked, with you and your Branch, felt a special warmth because we knew that you all joined us in thought, as your massage was read. Others present, were quite impressed, and , again, the bouquet was lovely. I fact, as I saw the red and white flowers, I couldn't help but think that they were so much prettier than anything we have ever had at a dinner. This past Saturday, I attended the meeting of the State Conference, with the president of the Fort Madison, and the Burlington Branch President, and a couple of members from the Keokuk Branch. We reminded the State Conference that we should meet with your Branch during the coming year. It was decided the we would do so, the first Sunday of June, which will be the 7th of June. The format will be a meeting just as we hold, all over the state, with the President of the ISP Branch, participating, as a voting member. At any rate, there should be no program planned and it might be interesting for the men to see that we are really "about something". At any rate, is this plan meets with the approval of your Branch, I would like to have volunteer forms sent to all of the Branch Presidents, now, so that we will not have the last minute business that we have been having. We are sorry that we have not been able to do any more in joint meetings with your Branch, but the truth of the matter is, that we haven't gotten into the formal organization for the next two years. I hope that after the meeting, this month, we will do better. Also, Burlington will be better organized, and we are counting on some help from Keokuk. With the three of us working together, I hope you will see more of the NAACP members of Southeastern Iowa. Again, let me thank all of you for your thoughtfulness at the time of our Banquet. It was very much appreciated. Sincerely Virginia Harper Executive Secretary
