The 1970 Federal Budge spent only 2.3% on public aid--70% went for past and present wars. Volunteers are staffed through the Volunteer Service Bureau. The service is run by the Johnson County Department of Social Services. SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM of Food UNIVERSITY VOLUNTEER SERVICE BUREAU Activities Center, Iowa Memorial Union Diana Sprague, Coordinator 353-4718 2p.m. to 5p.m. Weekdays Student-run organization involving students in volunteer service which will help solve the problems facing society. Also serves as a recruiting and referral agency for existing volunteer opportunities. UVSB always has need for people with special skills or hobbies willing to share these with others. PUBLIC PERSONAL SERVICES 1040 william st. 8-5 weekdays 351-4341 For children in Iowa City and surrounding are schools. Provides psychological services, speech therapy and special education and reading. These are provided free as they are financed via the school systems. CIVIC CENTER Washington and Gilbert St. Any questions about Social Security; administers Old Age Survivors assistance, Medicare, Health Insurance for the Aged and Disability Claims.
