COMMENTS AND EVALUATIONS There seems to be some dissatisfaction with present system of hours. The primary advocated changes are those of sophomores not needing parental permission and of having hours for freshman women only if their parents or guardians request that they have hours. Cited as the main reason for more liberal hours is that students are capable of self-discipline. The comments were primarily concerned with the question of the present hours system. Those wanting to keep hours cited such reasons as "lack of maturity as freshman", "need for restrictions", "not capable of handling self", and that "hours were fair, comfortable, and any further liberalization would not enhance the function of the rules". Those favoring more liberal hours offered the following reasons; "self-discipline should be learned", "more trust is needed", "students are old enough to take care of themselves, and if not, it is time that they learned", "boys don't have hours", "many students are totally independents of their parents", "the purpose of college is an education, not the rigorous strapping in of students", "the university should concern itself with the quest for academic excellence and leave the problems of student moral behavior to the Campus Ministry Service", "rules aren't enforced anyway", and "if students are old enough to be in college and to be paying for it, then hours should be of little importance". There were also numerous comments about the system of late minutes; "most girls would rather stay out all night than get late minutes", "ridiculous punishment for late minutes", "punishment for late minutes is not fair and distribution of punishment is unequal". Further comments touched upon the idea of "having later closing hours and Sunday night privileged hours for traveling purposes", "avoiding the crowds of people at closing hours", "getting rid of privileged hours meetings", and "devising a better system of communication in the residence halls".
