page 8. FAN TODS: You are probably right about the importance of visualization in playing chess. And just contemplate the amount of that ability needed for three-dimensional chess. Incidentally, we wondered how large a percentage of fan have this ability. Until recently we took it for granted that this ability was quite general. We conceived an idea that we would write a nice tale of our journeys all over the country visiting all the well-known fans. We figured we'd get data on each of them such as their mannerisms, habits of dress, looks, etc. Thus, even though we'd never met them, our tale would sound true to all but the fan we were supposed to be visiting. In other words, the only giveaway would be when the reader came to where we visited him. Well, we finally found a fan who'd met most of the well-known fen. We got off in a corner with our typer and him and started asking questions about the fen. To our eternal dismay we discovered that he had no member of f[[[rest of document not yet transcibed]]
