THE WINDS Carl B. Evans From out of the South comes a Wind that will bring Life to the flowers And birds that will sing. Soft is the Wind thatthe Summer holds As all the beauties of nature Are held in its folds. Strong are the Winds that sail ships on the seas, Though kind to the birds That nest in the trees. From out of the North comes the Winds that blow All the leaves from the trees To prepare for the snow. Leaves that all Summer were fast to their mooring Like billowy clouds Into the sky are sent soaring. The Wind comes up and the sky grows black And the trees creak and bend Like an old man's back. Soon the trees are bare and the leaves have gone But when Winter comes Still the Wind blows on. 8
