Assessment of 2nd Meeting Tues. Aug 31st (5:30 pm) Hard time Discussion was mainly concerned w/the positive and negative aspects of University status and the use of the pentacrest vrs. the city and using College Green Park. Essentially the objections raised about College Green were the possibility of haveing to pay liability insurance and security bonds, which could add up to a lot of money (rough est 200-300$$$). Also it was mentioned but not as important that to do the rally at college green seems to set it up as "the place to do the rally" which could be all right but we should take it into consideration. The pentacrest would be free, provided we could obtain university student org. status. The drawback is wether we wnat to do that at the risk of alienating possible community participants, by associating so closely with the university. The location of the Pentacrest involves some other problems. It isn't as isolated so theres the possibility of conflict. It would be harder to control the population attending I.e. men. We might have to deal with campus security. and it is very close to town and would probably attract a lot of attention from passerbys. The psoitive aspects are that it's free, close to town (march-wise) and centrally located. The visibility is a problem only in dealing with the safety, and less hassle with men. generally it was thought that it would be great if we could show such force so deep in "enemy territory". We decided to persue both. Susan was to call the city and see about the possibility of obtaining waivers for the various liabilities. And tess was to begin the motions for student status. (It should be noted that we can obtain "ad hoc" status which would get the Pentacrest, and is [[underlined]] very [[underlined]] easy to do, or we can get "permanent" status which only a little harder and gives the opportunity to apply for funds. The decision to do this is still pending. Taking into account the hassle, and how much we might have to co-opt ourselves for money.) We scheduled the next meeting for Sunday 5th at Susan and Amy's in an attempt to get off campus. At the next meeting we will discuss the policy of men, contact lists and maybe the city/univ status.
