[[strike through]] MARXISM AND SOCIAL THOUGHT [[strike through]] [[handwritten] TAKE BACK THE NIGHT [[handwritten]] 29 Sept 82 Good Meeting We started with people's announcements The included the notice we got from the city, and how difficlut it seemed to get the liability insurance, although at this point we have no idea how much This depressed us, but we pulled out of it. Decided to appeal to city council atarting with a phone call to mary nuehauser. We discussed the mailing. Suggest future groups attempt negotiate with bulk mailers Susan read the contact letter she wrote (wonderful!!) and we decided to stamp and stuff letters on Sunday when we dye the T-shirts. We decided against any formal joint publicity with Rape Awareness Week. not enough control over target populations, jepardize the RVAP ect. We decided on a log submitted by Judy Waterman. Its just words. Talked about the color of t-shirts, black on red, red on black I can't remember what we decided on we'll find out on Sunday. Amy reported: we have a stage. A flatbed donated by Amy and Ferol. Sound however, is a [[underlined]] bit [[underlined]] of a problem. We need to figure out how to power things, like the stage equipment We found some small battery packs, for the speak out mike but might need a generator of sorts for the stage. She continue to look into it. Colette reported on lights, there are coleman's for rent. The cheapest is from the Univ. from Touch the Earth. She'll reserve them allfor the 23rd. Pat and Colette gave a childcare report: Adult workers, at the WRAC, for boy and girl children. There should be a car for children to be transported from the rally site. Advertised on poster that childcare and transportation available. List a contact number for mothers/parents to call in: ask callers to give # of children, a contact number (emergency) snacks, and a bed mat. Childcare will be offered for [[underlined]] 1/2 hour [[underlined]] after the event. All girl children are welcome at the rally. If women show up with biy children this is what they'll har. A specific worker (not gen'l security) wil ask the parent/mother to reconsider bringing boy child for same reasons as men, and also that women may not want their kids hearing direct anger at men. Tell them that if they choose to stay with their child, that the rally organizers can't be responsible for other women's reactions to the presence of a male. THIS SHOULD NOT BE A THREAT. more like a reality. Make sure they know that we would be glad to transport her and/or her child to the Childcare location. Need special workers at the rally, and a special car and driver. Tess and Pat reported on the Speak out proposal: The actual speak out will break the crowd down into smaller groups. These groups should be miked. Before the rally through informational hand-outs, and before the speakout from the stage some guidlines and such will be given: Why a speak out, who can speak, , listening is equally important as spaeking. Please be quite, if you can'y hear be patient, some women may be speaking for the first time: allow them the need to speak softly. EMOTIONAL SECURITY: Speacial workers, identified by colored armband or something, Available for short, crisis counceling at the rally. (Speacial trainig willbe requried. Possible a special place at the rally site. These women could be recruited from the DVP, RVAP, advocates, etc. Previous crisis intervention experience will be needed. The coming to gether as a group again after the speakout is over, will be ritualized. As each group finishes, (they won't end to gether they will begin a chant, softly, to allow other groups to finish but ultimately we will all finish and be united as a whole groups again via this chant. Then more music!!! Each group will have three specialized people. One woman who will be prepared to speak out. She will not be announced, so that she will not be pressurized to speak, should she decide not to. A second woman will initially be there to support the woman speaking
