October 6, 1982 Dear Sister, 7 weeks ago, and organizing committee formed for the purpose of planning and shaping an evening for women to speak to and with one another about the debilitating affect of violence in our lives. As organizers, we hope to provide a forum at which each woman can feel the safety and support that she needs in order to directly confront the ways in which her body, her psyche, and her environment have been, and continue to be violated. Violence in our lives is an experience that all women share regardless of class, race, age, culture, national origin, appearance, sexual preference, or relative abilities. It varies only with regard to character and degree. We hope that the Take Back the Night rally scheduled for Saturday, October 23, 1982, will be an invaluable experience for all women involved and that it will give us the energy we need to continue the fight against violence. In order for it to be that, we need your time, your ideas, and your financial support. The organizing committee expects to incur expenses for publicity, equipment, childcare, and an insurance bond for College Green Park. Most importantly however, we require your presence at the rally on October 23. 1982. We ask that you demonstrate your dedication to yourself and to other women by attending and participating in the rally. If you have questions or want to offer your help, please call 351-1675 during the day or 338-8220 in the evening. If you know of a group that would be interested in hearing about the rally, we would be glad to provide a speaker. Look for posters for more details. Thanks in advance for your ideas, your time, and your support In sisterhood, Tess Catalano Susan Nagl Common Lives for the Ad Hoc Committee to Take Back the NIght
