For a group of women to take that control away by excluding men from participation in their (women's) rite of self-assertion is obviously very threatening to some within the existing system. What better way to show men in a dramatic and non-violent way how women feel every day in a patriarchal society? I would hope that to be excluded from and so to lose power over these women's lives albeit for just a couple of hours has done some very worthwhile consciousness raising in Derek Maurer (DI, Oct. 21) and those who feel as he does. Their exclusion need to be "divisive" if he and others who share similar views take the message given by the women of this community and work with them to solve the underlying causes of violence against women.
