14 ......... THE FANTASITE well covered it, but I do want to say how much I appreciate the friendships I made those three days. There is Walter Liebacher, for instance. Very kindly he put up Paul Klingbiel and myself at his apartment for the two nights. And Walt is a real guy. You know, he's the fellow who wrote that "Blotto" thing in STARDUST, and when he came up to Milwaukee from Chicago a month ago, he told me Hamling had accepted a poem from him -- something about a guy who always wanted to die like a firecracker. Then there was Ackerman and Morojo - grand people. Rich Frank and wife, Hazel Shull, Honey Smith - daughter of "Doc" Smith-, Widner, Singleton, Miske, Doc Lowndes, Freehafer --well, I could go on and name everyone that was there. Of course, some I didn't get to know, but that's why I'm waiting for the DENVENTION. _________ ------------ =0=0=0=0= ------------ ________ EDITORIAL ADDITIONS AND NOTES I see by Fantasy Fiction Field that the Tuckers have a new addition to the family, a boy! Congratulations, Bob! Just finished the final installment of "Slan" by Van Vogt. To me it is not possible to rate it as anything but a classic. I enjoyed it far more than "Grey Lensman". Although it is rather improbable, here's hoping that someday Van Vogt will someday write a sequel. All in all, the Dec. ASTOUNDING looks like a bang--up issue, and I am particularly pleased to note than Charles Sonneman has finally reverted to his former and more pleasing style of illustration. That was a pet peeve of mine. I'll give a free copy of TF to anyone sending a good name for the "Reader's Section". I've wracked my brain attempting to thing up something suitable, but got no results, so I guess I'll have to rely on someone else's imagination. You may have noticed my attempts at even right hand edges, and no doubt were not very pleased with the results. Rest assured that the next issue will have some really even edges. The size of the next number will depend entirely on the amount of material I receive, but I am quite sure it will be larger than this one. If you haven't subscribed yet, do so now! I for one am in favor of hektoed mags, and not just because THE FANTASITE is one. I'd like to know, however, how many of the readers are in favor of TF being hektoed. Someday, mind you, TF may be mimeod. How many would prefer that type of duplication? __________ --------------- (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) ---------------- ___________ -Advertisement- FRONTIER 'The magazine of significance" Science, Philosophy, and Science Fiction 3031 N. 36th St., Milwaukee, Wis. -- 10¢ ------three for 25
