FAN-ATIC, Vol 1, No 2. March 1941. Page 15 "VITONS, VITAMINS, AND VITAPHONES" (( Courtesy of Starlight Publications)) Continued. -By Clipping Bureau----H.P. Pong. have to manuever that blasted parachute right into a treetop! Here, hold that match steady till I light this cigar. Wonder if civilization is close around here? Hah! Won't the major be sore when he finds out we cracked up his old crate! The last native then promptly died of fright from the memory!" CASE THREE: From a small, upstate, Illinois city, there came a telegraphed report that a scientist had perfected a method of actually seeing the pesky Feather-Merchants! At the personal request of the President, Pong went at once to interview the scientist. He reports: "Did go to see scientist as requested. Did find him working over a boiling pot of hellish brew. Did ask him what he was making. He did tell me to go straight to hell, it being none of my goddam business. He did then sip brew, and immediately saw little men, for he suddenly began fighting somethings invisible to me. He staggered from room. I did then step foward and sip brew. It tasted fine, and feeling no ill effect, I sipped more. I saw no little men. I sipped more. Alligators, and colored elephants began to appear, but still no little men. I upended the pot. No little men. Report dismal failure ..... wait a minute, something is breaking in the window ..... it is a man .....he has a gun and a badge ..... listen ..... he is saying: "Here it is, Al! I found the still!" ####################### CONCENTRATION. by Philip A. Schumann Have you ever thought of what man could achieve were he able to concentrate effectively for long periods of time? It is a known fact today, that a person cannot concentrate solely on a single subject for even ten minutes. As soon as one begins to thing something out--a new type of engine, for example; or even which girl to take to the movie, his mind begins to wander from the subject. Soon he is thinking about thinking about it. Or perhaps he wanders from the idea and begins to think about engines in general, or girls in general. After a while he will probably succeed in his task of picking, but the engine is a different matter. It takes a masterful and brilliant mind to assimilate many thought and to put them on paper. Were it possible for man to concentrate over periods far longer than at present, it is probable that every living being would have new, inventive, and practical ideas, which could be converted into reality. Were a longer period of concentration possible it is quite probable that wars, civil strife, and even criminal activity would cease. Man would have a greater control of logic and his emotions than ever before. Problems could be thought out fully, down to the last detail. The ability to concentrate effectively would endow man with vast scientific powers, and the ability to actually see into the future, due to the fact that the present day might be fully understood and its logical destiny deduced. The world of long concentration would see everybody a scientist in his or her own field; everyone an expert at his occupation. Schools would have pupils ranging from three to ten years of age. During that time all education necessary could be assimilated, combining college, high and grade school in on. Next page x
