THE PERRY LINE by James V. Taurasi Illustrated by Louis Maurino ----------------------------- "Hello Captain!" said Captain Bob as he stomped into the room, "Here is our report on our last trip." "Mmm-hmm," answered the Airport Captain, "O.K. Bob, you have a three week vacation on your hands now. Where's Koso?" "Koso is taking his vacation already. He's on his way to Venus with Princess Solar." "Well, it's bout time he took a honeymoon anyway. What do you plan to do with the three weeks you got?" "I don't know," answered Bob, "Guess I'll take a spin to the Moon and take a look at their mines. I've always wanted to do that." "If you want a change from the regimen of space trips I would suggest that you take a ride on that new Ferry Line between Earth and Luna. It's a honey of a trip. The ships are built to carry passengers in comfort and not in speed. They take about two days to do the trip, but it's one of the best trips I've been on. It's like a hotel. Why not try it?" "O.K. Captain, I think I'll do it and return safely to duty on Mars. I'll take this trip to the Moon, look it over for a week or so, and then meet Koso on Mars and return to duty." A few hours later, a small bag in his hands, Captain Bob boarded the Moon Line Hotel Ship, Atlantis. He found to his amusement that the ship was a very large one, over two-thousand feet long and one-thousand feet wide. It looked very awkward and Bob wondered how it ever left the ground. But the inside was fixed up to perfection. Large dining rooms, a bathing pool so large that it took a good ten minutes to swim it's length. And the state-rooms, Bob had a two room suite that were the last word on any hotel on Earth and that was going some. "Gosh," said Captain Bob, "If they could only give this tub some speed, it'll be the finest ship in the Solar System. What a layout, what a layout. It's going to be heaven to be in space on a comfortable ship like this, even though it crawls along." ************************ This, the second story of Bob and Koso in the this issue by Dr. James V. Taurasi is, by far better than the first for the simple reason that it has been written twice as long and has more of a better plot. You can call this a sort of sequel to the first one. ED. ************************* The first day went along uneventfully. Bob ate, slept and played games to his hearts content, but the most interesting thing aboard the ship was a little red-head by the name of Helen. Bob was with her almost every minute of the day. Early the next day, Helen came running to him with news that there was a small swift ship close by. "I was passing the control room and I heard the pilot talking about it!" she said, "They sounded worried, said something about a threat the spaceline had received a few days ago. I'm scared!" "And what were you doing up near the control room?" asked Bob, "I thought passengers weren't allowed up there!" "Well....gosh, I wanted to see what the place looked like." "O.K." said Bob, "You go to your cabin. I'll have a looksee about this, they may have talked just to get you scared for going up there." "But they didn't see me!" put in Helen, "I'm sure they didn't." "I'll go see about it, you go to your cabin, where I'll know I'll find you." "Allright Bob, I'll go!" Bob walked up and entered the control room. "Hey!" shouted one of the pilots, "No passengers are allowed here you'll have to....hey! It's Captain Bob!" "Yes, I'm Bob, what's this I hear about a ship following us?" "Huh? How did you find out?"
