12 FANFARE THE MAKINGS OF A MISOGYNIST one reason that stands out. Namely, the fact that most girls are not introverts. By far the great majority of fans are, and whether we like it or not -- and we don't, of course -- that makes a difference. A helluva lot of difference. Those girls already mentioned are certainly not introverted in the least, and that makes those girls fans who are active, real fans, who are interested in science-fiction and fandom for itself, and not for any value it may have as an "outlet" or "compensation". Thus it is obvious that there will always be a number of men in the field, and always a comparatively smaller number of women. And it is just as obvious that there always will be far more women with a pure interest in its activities than there will be men. The fan circle needs the ability and the constructiveness of the so-called weaker sex. It will never have it while the majority of them maintain their present attitude of smug complacency. They'll never be jarred into such activity that they will be seen in the fan-mags with the regularity of a telephone in a Petty drawing, but someday a few may become semi-active. It is an event to be anticipated. Brothers, it's a man's fan world. THE END ************************************************************************** THE NEVER DEAD by Oliver C Davis On some forgotten mystery island swept By virgin winds and lapt by reverend waves That linger o the shore like silent slaves Who worship where a whispred king has slept, Old voices murmur from the temple palms: Old shadows move...old thoughts of peopled land Circle in me 'till time's far gaps are spanned And I have seen Lemuria's peaceful realms. The saronged wives and native husbands tell Their patience of the angry God whose voice Filled the deep throated night and opened Hell
