FANFARE 25 [centered] STRANGE INTERTUBES like your question and answer department. (Thanks a lot for the two bits, Bonnie, and how about shooting us a query or two for the dept.?) DONN BRAZIER editor of FRONTIER, says his impressions of FANFARE are excellent, and goes into detail thus: "Cover: an original conception showing novel twist in customary viewpoint as indentified with the hero; really is a mutant . . . . Editorial: always good and breezy . . . UNDER THE BORDER: clever satire: shows a scientific mind . . . . RED BLOOD: Kraft knows his horror mags and what they feature all right; the ending didn't quite satisfy me, and I don't know what I wanted exactly. His title, BRIDES FOR THE BOW-LEGGED MAT MAN, is a dilly, and I bet he wished he had it copyrighted! . . . SHALL WE EDIT?: the best in the issue; a really good question to pose for all fans interested in getting out their own pubs. I agree with you that the editor should edit. I do. Maybe that's why I agree? . . . BIOGRAPHY: I always like them no matter how they are presented, just so I get to know all these guys. . . . POLL NEWS: always good, too, but I hate to see hacks like Binder and de Camp riding up so high above C.A. Smith in the Binder case, and Lovecraft in the de Camp case. Perhaps I shouldn't call de Camp hack; I believe I'll say that he's a bit of a fluffy-frother. Maybe that's why he floats above HPL. . . . DOTS: OK, but I don't usualy care for that diary diddling, as I told Lowndes in regard to his SFW . . . FANMAGS: Where was FRONTIER? . . . Q&A: I'll learn a lot . . . . . . . Ihear you are going to hekto the next FANFARE. SWELL! I've always liked hekto better.............." RAJOCZ 312 E. Elm St., Scranton, Pa., comments: "If my memory serves me right, there is a little something in the August issue of FANFARE which tells me that my subscription to said magazine has expired. Therefore, if I still want to receive aforementioned [underlined] fanag (note to ACKERMANISTS: use [underlined] fanag instead of "fanmag", "fan mag" or "fan-mag") (Y?--awjr) I should re-subscribe, and this I gladly do by sending you another quarter for the next three consecutive issues. This shows you that I think your fanag good enough to resubscribe to it, so if you were unhappy, cheer up kid! . . . RED BLOOD was a usual unusual story, and it was good also. (Our readers sure can write--or talk--in bunches--awjr) I do not remember ever hearing of Richard Kraft...... The article on Chauvenet was good, but I missed the day of his birth, which was not in the article . . . The idea behind the mutant cover was good and slightly humorous. (shux, we thot it was a seven sector callout in the funtasty line--awjr) POLL NEWS was interesting. You will find my vote enclosed. . . . Harry Warner turns out something interesting and good in SHALL WE EDIT? . . . I did not care much for UNDER THE BORDER . . . The three depts., THE STRANGERS SAY, DOTS, and LOOKING OVER THE FAN-MAGS were better than last issue. STRANGE INTERLUDES was welcome, and let's hope you can enlarge it later. I really enjoyed it . . . Cover: 7. More for the idea than for the drawing itself . . . EDITORIAL: 8. Who ever heard of an interesting editorial? Gad, Sir, it's an insult to tradition! . . RED BLOOD: 10. Best burlesque of the horror pulps I've ever seen, and the finest thing in the mag. Heh! . . . SHALL WE EDIT: 10. I side with Harry on this.
