FANFARE 9 BEAT IT--HAMLING from Los Angeles to Boston--who spent five or six days doing their best to make the convention the success it was--before, during, and after the official meetings. But did Hamling participate in these activities? He did not! Hamling spent about four or five hours at the convention--this during the height of the business meeting of the second day; most of this time was spent with Smith, Miske, Brazier, and me. There were a good many well known fans who didn't even see Hamling, let alone meet him. Yet Hamling wasn't missing the convention because he is shy (he isn't):--he didn't like the way it was being run, he didn't have time, he was busy...Busy at what? You may believe his version of the Chicon Booklet thing if you wish to; there are other stories floating about...if they were entirely false, they wouldn't have gotten started. All of this proves nothing about Stardust; and, in consequence, neither do Hamling's famous last words; "I AM A FAN, I AM A FAN..." Beat it, Hamling. * ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** **** *** *THE SOUTHERN STAR* *** THE FIRST SOUTHERN FAN MAGAZINE! * * * * COMING SOON!
