STRANGE INTERLUDES FAIRY TALE by 4SJ Ackerman Hiya, guys! That's quite a neat offering U got there now in FAIRY, what with the even edges, xlnt typing, legible hectoing, & lineup of material. Was considerable surprised at the mild-mannerd Tesasingleton's attack on Stardust, which I prefer not to rate; but his compilation of correspondence reRDS was great, &, not seeing how it coud've been presented any better, put it in first place with 100.... Incidently, whose initials are DVS? (Della V. Singleton is the lucky recipient of my longest letter, 4e. -es) All I can think of offhand is Dale V Simpson, fan who's disapeard today but was friend of myn & head of a science fiction correspondence club, as I recall, in an earlier era. Gilbert's article about the girls draws 90, a little less, notable because of errors of omission. JG appears not to be acquainted, for instance, with fan fictioneer Mary G Byers, fantartist Mary E Rogers, fanmag publisher Mary C Gray (FOOFOO Priestess Pogo). I myt ansr his question as to whether Morojo reads the pros (he surmises "She probably doesn't") by saying she reads Astounding, Unknown & Hornig's mags rather regularly, plus any particular story in any other pro which I myt recommend or which myt prove important or popular. So much for Joe. I neither understand nor appreciate poetry so shall skip same. About 75 for Miske's "Outside." Not getting formal, Jack, calling U Miske; it's just there're so many Jacks. Clever title SaM selected for his article, which I can give only abut 60, tho, mainly because I found several statements to be unbelievable. Item a., that Lovecraft coudnt boost the circulation of WT oven a thousand when he apeared; &b., that the loss of REH "meant the very life of the magazine itself." Does Mr Moskowitz have authority for these statements or are they more of his self-styled "expert opinions"? No bout I am putting myself on the spot & SaM will slam back at me & say Farnsworth Wright confided in him just bfor he died, but it sounds to me like more of Samuel's unusual imagination. Oh, well, U absolved yourself of any responsibility on the contents page, didnt U? Incidently, if a house name makes money for its publisher, would U call it a case of the Jack that House Built? 85 for your readersection, but don't U think Inter-Lewds is a rather suggestive title? "U, knight, or 0" registered 100% mit me. SPLIT DOOM by Rajocz You seem to be the master of the hectograph, which is shown by the wonderful job you did with the fourth issue of FANFARE.***Earl might have something in what he says, but I shall reserve my opinion until I hear Hamling's reply. Miske ought to do more article writing besides Stardusst. His "Outside" was excellent. Moskowitz was interesting. Gilbert pointed out some interesting facts, even if not exactly right. *** "Unite or Fie!" very interesting and pertinent, but the movement is, I think, doomed. (See what I mean? --awjr.)
