THE RENDEZVOUS **************************** -Where Good Fellows Get Together- From Martin Cramer, 1315 E. 10th St., Indianapolis, comes the following: It is with greatest interest that I reread your welcome letter. For some long time there has been a distinct need for such a club or association as you propose. Most of those who call themselves fans seem to think it is necessary to pick a story to pieces, flay and salt the editor and author and wind up by condemning most other fans for not agreeing with themselves in matters of opinion. Science Fiction and Fantasy stories are written for entertainement and reader enjoyment and I might say that I seldom have read a story of this type which has not in some way, held my interest. All the above is only to bolster this statement to the effect that an association of Indiana fantasy fans meets my entire approval and you may count upon me for whatever assistance and support which I may render. If there are any embryo members in my vicinity whom I could contact or in any other way assist with the forwarding and formation of the Indiana Fantasy Association, do not hesitate to call upon me. Your central library idea appeals to me as I am sure it will to most fans. I have a few old and several new mags which I will be glad to contribute when the time comes for such action. Obviously many other Indiana fans will be glad to avail themselves of this privelige in exchange for the use of the library. Possibly with the formation of our club we will be able to get together at some central point and hold a literary pow-pow. I have always wanted to attend one of the stf. conventions, but have never been able to do so because of lack of funds. (Extracts from a later letter.) Just a word about the library proposition. This may be a little premature and no doubt a matter to be voted upon by members, but don't you think that all members who do not contribute to the library should put a deposit of 50 cents or 75 cents to cover possible loss. All contributors, on the basis of their donations, would be automatically exempt from this fee. The rental idea as outlined for fund raising purposes would be ideal. Now just a few remarks re: the publishing of names and addresses in our forthcoming mag. Would a very short autobiography be too much to publish? Say a few words about hobbies, likes in fiction, age and such like. This would, no doubt, be very interesting and increase correspondence and activities amongst the individual members. ((Thanks again, Mart, for your very welcome letters and promises of co-operation. They are deeply appreciated and are portents of a successful climax in building up this orgaisation upon a firm foundation of cheerful co-operation. The various suggestions are mentioned or answered in other parts of this magazine.
