EDITORIAL by Charles (CAB) Beling We are going to quote Tucker for a started: "we did it". Yes, we did it. In our May issue, which appeared on July 1st, we said that we would try to have the July ish out by August first and the September ish out on Sept 1st. At the time, that was just a wild dream. Something to hope for, but not to expect. But, by a miracle, it happened. No, we can't believe it either. We wich to extend our thanks and heartfelt gratitude to all of those fans who made it possible. To Don Thompson, for doing 'Listeth...' on such short notice more than once. To the Columbia Camp for their heavy contributions of material, letters, ads, etc. To Doc Lowndes, for Hell's Corner last ish. To Forry Ackerman, for doing the Esperanto col last ish. To Harry Warner, for the xlnt article this ish, and on extremely short notice, too. To all those who wrote letters of comment, etc. In short, to everyone who helped on Fanny: "Thanx a million. We did it." Oh, yes. We have another achievement, too. By the time you read this, friend, CAB will have reached the tremendous age of 18. Celebrations are in order. As most of you have probably already noticed, both 4e's Esp-o column and 'Hell's Corner' are missing. Don't blame us. Acky was too busy to do the column. But, about 'HC'; we still don't know what's happened. Over a month ago, we asked Pogo to do it. Counting last month's editorial, we notified her three times, but received no answer. You know as much about it as we do. S'matter Pogo? We'll try to have both back next ish. 'HC' by Joe Gilbert. Col by Forry. A few days ago we rec'd a letter from Hyman Tiger. He wanted to clear up a few misconceptions about the 'Stf Quiz' in the May ish. Gilbert thought that it was a mistake to say that Asimov was the youngest author, since Kornbluth was known to be younger. The Quiz said "no pseudonyms", though. And Kornbluth hasn't had anything published under his own name. The other 'misconception' of JG's concerned Jack Speer. He didn't know that Speer had anything published in the pros, as listed in the Quiz. According to Tiger, he (Speer) has a story in WEIRD several yrs ago under the name of 'John Bristol'. Speer's name is really John Bristol Speer. And last; we (CAB) made a mistake too. We didn't know that Tucker was an author when the Quiz was written. Seems he was. That's all of that. Thanks, Hyman. As to Archer Cusp's ballad. There are 'Docs' and 'Docs'; and, in case they all rush forward to claim the honor, the 'Doc' immortalized therein is Lowndes. On hand for next issue (or any issue) are a three page article by Harry Warner, Jr. and a full page poem by Ray Washington, Jr. Besides those two, we've several of the Cusp poems floating around. Add in the regular features, depts, etc. and you've and excellent next issue. ((We won't tell you what the HW article is about. We like to keep you in suspense.)) ((It's good, though.)) ((No kidding, Tucker.)) In response to many pleas, the letter sections is longer this time. At the present time, no art-work or poetry is needed. We want a limited am't of fiction and lots of articles. Fiction between 1 and 2 pages. Articles between 1 and 3 pages. Next deadline is October first. Our sincere thanks to Chris Mulrain who bought the first paid ad in Fanny. Since we enter Columbia University next month we expect to be extremely busy. Therefore the next issue of FAN-ATIC may be a little late, a month or two. -CAB **
