THE LIFE OF A SUN SPOT. (Continued) It was just about the time of our first Anniversary issue that SUN SPOTS started to act a little grown up. Even Art Widner (who, just after it came out, said it was worse because it was bigger) after reading it said it wasn't half bad. Chapter 3. The Adult SUN SPOTS. Our super 44 page annish was the beginning of the better era. The following issues were very neat in appearance and contained some rather good stuff. Now that SUN SPOTS is printed, I think it will soon become a top-notcher. Anyway, let's hope that it lives to a ripe old age. ************ FANZINE REVIEW by Yehudi. FANART -Dime, bi-monthly. Though I believe that the second issue is out, I've only the first one at hand. However, it's excellent. This is, I think, the first fan artist magazine. Contains art by Harry Jenkins, Roy Hunt, Rudy Sayn, Jack Fields, Tom Wright, Bob Jones, Jay Radcliffe, Phil Bronson, and Joe Fortier. Hunt's is far-and-away-the-best. Well mimeoed, on on 8f page only. Thus drawings are suitable for framing. From Harry Jenkins, Jr. 2409 Santee Ave, Columbia, South Carolina. SUN SPOTS -Dime, bi-monthly. SUN SPOTS, having previously died, is now back. This time it's printed. Blanchard replaces Plotkin as one of the co-eds. Gaets and de la Ree are still with it. Only 8 pages this time, but next issue is supposed to be 12. Excellent articles by Millard and Wellman. Usual features: Trash Basket, Sun Squawks, Fanzine Review. This is the best issue they ever put out. Looks like it's going to improve more too Solar Press. 31 Bogert P1, Westwood, New Jersey. PACIFICONEWS- Free, bi-weekly. This is a 2 page news-sheet giving all the details & information about the 'Pacificon'. Well mimeoed, done on a variable typerwriter, in modernistic type. First issue is dated July 21st. This little piece is free; all they ask in return is that you drop them a postcard every month saying wheter or not you received it, and if you desire to keep receivin it. Announces that any fanzine editor who so desires may have a free 'Pacificon' ad on stencil, for the asking. Walt Daugherty. 6224 Leland Way, Hollywood, California. "X" -Dime, irregular. Sub-titled "The Futurian Review." Silk screened cover. The second (June issue) number has ll poorly mimeoed pages. The material is all by "Roger Conway". Stuff ranges from excellent to lousy. Supposed to be out by Denvention, appeared weeks too late. I don't quite know what to think about it. Largely Futurian 'Propaganda'. If you like the Futurians you'll like this. It's a cinch that Sykora & Company would rather sleep in a den of snakes than read this lil mag. Roger Conway. 142 W. 103rd St, New York City. That's all until November, pal. For those who missed the announcement last issue, I only review fanzines which have not been reveiwed previously in Fanny. Thus many excellent and well-known one wen't be mentioned here until I run out of the new ones. For a really exhaustive review, I recommend Bronson's FANTASITE.
