COMPLIMENTS AND OTERWISE (Continued) Jenkins' letter continued: As to "Hell's Corher", Lowndes must have had most of the letter-writers AMAZING in mind. For they certainly fit his article, dept, or whatchamacallit. *** "CAB, Amachoor Detective", was quite interesting. Who are the villains? (We still aren't positive. Martin hasn't yet denied it. A card from Bronson about an hour ago says: "Hey, how'd you get the idea that I sent that silly letter from Denver?" And, on same card, Wright writes: "You're a good detective - but you missed slightly." Still on same card, Fortier tells us that we're a real amachoor in detective work. Draw your own conclusions. We are still positive that Martin was one of the guilty characters; as to theoter one, well, it might be Fortier. His handwriting checked fairly closely with that on the envelope of the letter, so did Bronson's. We aren't experts in such matters; we decided that Phil was guilty, but it might be Joe. -eds)) Fanzine Review. Squaaaaaawwwwwwwkkkkk, where was FANART? ((It's in this ish)) STARLIGHT was reviewed quite capably. The format and the entire mag were beautiful, but the material, as a whole, stunk. ***** For my part, you can take Forry's column and stick it up some drain pipe. Esperanto bores me. But maybe it's because I'm out of school and I don't want to think of foreign languages, or any language for that matter, outside of English. ***** "As the Wind Listeth......" Gads, the Denvention must have been a hectic affair, and it makes me wonder who could write a complete account of the affair, for it seems that everybody got drunk at one time or the other. Damn that smooth-tongued Daugherty for robbing us of the convention. But it's the Dixiecon in 1943! ((Ditto)) ***** As for my stand on the NFFF question of membership, har tis. I stand solidly beside Widner, or behind him. The organization should be for no one except TRULY ACTIVE FANS! After all, the ordinary dope who reads stf mags wouldn't know Ackerman from #30051 fan. He'd be an ignoramus. And yet, he'd have just as many votes as the most active fan. I stand right behind Art Widner. NFFF FOR ACTIVE FANS ONLY. ***** Doc Lowndes piece was a bit off the deep side an therefore slightly boring. But 'twas well worth printing. ***** I don't know who Archer Cusp is, but he shore can sling that doggerel around nicely. ((That is why we print it.)) Letter section: not long enuf. ((This better?)) **** As to Pogo's remark: "Gilbert is my candidate for the best fan writer there is at the present time .... and from the look of things he'll keep improving." okay Pogo, I agree with yee. ***** Yea, verily, DO support Cunningham's drive for the relief of the war-suffering British stf fans. It's a worthy cause. **** And before you print the new column "Star light", by the 'Star-lighter', I can tell you who it is. It's Joe Fortier. Ain't I right? ((Maybe. But the col won't be used. The author lacks time to do it.)) I hope you get it, cause Joe can write interesting stuff. And I like Joe immensely. ((Ditto, Harry. So do we.)) Well CAB, FAN-ATIC has improved immensely, keep up the swell work! (Try to)) Gerry de la Ree, Jr. 9 Bogert Place, Westwood, New Jersey. Greetings Beling: ((Sorry, Gerry; but we're gonna cut this a lot. eds.)) First the cover. How about an illustration for a change? You stated in your editorial that you needes no more art, so you must have something on hand. ((We have nothing on hand in art.)) Present head is neat, but tiresome. *** I had previously read both Lowndes' and Tucker's stuff, and thought they were swell. Tucker's being by far the better, however. CAB, Amachoor Detective and the other space filler were boring, as were some of Cusp's poems, *** Fanzine review swell *** DBThompson's piece best, as usual. *** 4e's Esperanto didn't interest me *** Letters okay, to few. *** Get some good paper, blue stuff stinks. *** On a whole, ish rated around 7. Not bad.
