FAN HISTORY IS CREATED AS KUSLANS, SYKORA, MOSKOWITZ, TAURASI, GIUNTA ASSEMBLE IN FLUSHING. The next issue announced that the Queens SFL had been reformed by a remnant of the old GNYSFL, A first meeting was held. Guest of honor and new member being author Thos S Gardner. After there was a notice to the effect that special booklets would be issued for the forthcoming Philly Conference...Argosy to reprint THE SHIP OF ISHTAR BY MERRITT. Beck on his way home to California.....Sunday Oct 23, 1938 ANOTHER SCOOP FOR FANTASY NEWS. The first six issue. A Complete account of the Philly Conference! The wonderful time had by all at this sparkling affair and the unqualified endorsement of all present for NEW FANDOM is the only logical group to run the WORLD CONVENTION. However, not satisfied with that item FANTASY NEWS had two scoops in that issue. The 2nd being AMAZING STORIES TO PUBLISH NEW FANTASY MAG. Which finally resulted in FANTASTIC ADVENTURES Again--2 scoops--in the 19 number of FANTASY NEWS. Standard to publish STRANGE STORIES. MARVEL to have companion, Dynamic Science Stories....1st Queens SFL Meeting Huge Success. More Weisinger present. Then there was a big two page account of the meeting and the beginning of the most successful group of SFL Chapter meetings ever held in the history of the league....AMAZING STORIES TO HAVE "WEIRD" COMPANION MAGAZINE, read the 22 number of FANTASY NEWS. at that time stf was in the throes of developing a half-dozen new publications, announcements for which appeared, inevitably, as scoop in FANTASY NEWS with such amazing regularity, that fans finally gasped a sigh of relief when they finally obtained an issue of FANTASY NEWS with such announcements not among the news for the week. Ziff-Davis we understand, still has that weird magazine under very serious consideration.----ANOTHER NEW STF MAG TO HIT STANDS WITHIN' A MONTH! presaged the coming of Horning's SCIENCE FICTION. CAMPBELL WILL MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE FEB 1939 ISSUE INTEREST TO ALL STF FANS. the latter forwarned the event of UNKNOWN....FANTASY NEWS had servived her 1st 6 months in an extremely healthy state. She celebrated her semi-anniversary by issuing a special 8 page issue & 6 pages of supplements. From that issue forth FANTASY NEWS never carried less than 4 pages crammed full of news. Her competitors quickly threw in the hat. They no longer even PRETENDED to be competitors, eventually they went out of existence and the days when fans could be swindled out of a nickel for a single sheet of paper were over.---Since the 1st of the year FANTASY NEWS has gained exceeding prominence. Her circulation has attained unexpected heights. Her depebdabel, weekly issuance, is a factor to be proud of. 52 issues James V Taurasi can look back on. 52 issues crammed with exclusive scoops, interviews, and odd items. One of the finest collections of scientifictionaly '___' - items the fantasy world has ever known. History of science-fiction has been enriched beyond means by the publication of FANTASY NEWS. Now posterity may find every item of interest that took place in the "old days" when they look back thru is the star-studded files of FANTASY NEWS. -----FANTASY NEWS is still young, her star is still ascending. "SCOOP" is the pass word. FANTASY NEWS, knows all, sees all, tells all that's fit to print. You may be assured it will maintain its high standard of interest for years to come. - Sam Moskowitz -
