FA--March 1942 Page 3 PHANNY #2 Freehafer: Not bad at all. The system of making a fanzine out of a regular series of letters is one that other fans might profitably copy. It gives a certain bright breeziness. Koenig: A series of letters between the two editors; with Don Thompson topping Lynn Bridges. A let down from the first issue, but still interesting in sections. Mercury V 2 N 4 Freehafer: Short but fair. I wish the Northern Californians would concerntrate on one publishing group and one magazine, and actually put something out. Koenig: A subscription magazine; let's skip it. No excuse for this single shooter being in the mailing. Open Letter to Anglo-Fans Freehafer: Orchids to 40, most generous fan of them all! Koenig: Forrie prefaces his letter with the question, "Like to read other people's mail?" The answer--"No, dammit, I don't." Fantasy Fiction Field V 4 N 1 Freehafer: I would like this better if it were less of a duplication for most of us. Still tops, though. Koenig: A subscription magazine; I can't find any good reason for including this particular issue in the mailing. The NUCLEUS V 3 N 2 Freehafer: Apparently this has become a magazine dedicated to deflating the fans. Don't overdo it. Koenig: The Editors apologize for using a cheap grade of typing paper. Good paper, slick paper, thin paper, thick paper. Who cares? Just so we have a Nucleus for each mailing. This issue has two well written articles (by Chauvenet and Spencer) on the sanity of fans. A good issue, but much too short. A TALE OF THE EVANS #1 Freehafer: One of the most likeable of fans calls himself a dope at some length. Koenig: A brief auto-biography of one E. E. Evans. I suspect we will hear more of him. I hope so. His contributions should prove a welcome addition to the mailings. AGENBITE OF INWIT Pp 3-4-5-6 Freehafer: I could get along without this very well. Koenig: Doc Lowndes admits he laughed heartily at some of his early poetic attempts and call them tripe. And, yet, he reprints a lengthy one. What is the FAPA? A dumping ground? [Gutoto?] #2 and #3 Freehafer: Verylittle to do with sf., fantasy, or the FAPA. Koenig: The do not belong in a mailing of the Fantasy APA. PRINTED MATTER 'The Flower City' (poem) Freehafer: Barry Farsaci in praise of Rochester. Koenig: (no comment)
