Thanxgiving in Shangri-La Reported by Pfc 4e Your correspondent really had a lot to be grateful for last Nov 26th. Tho this news probably won't reach fandom till 1943, I'd like to record the doings of that day. I was able to obtain a pass and spent the morning at my flat adding recent accumulations to my collection and taking care of this and that. In the afternoon I repaird to Vom's editorial office where I worked on the Annish. In the even Morojo came home from work and shortly called me to the fone when it rang, reporting Walt Daugherty wanted to talk to me. Walkt had the surprise info Mark Reinsberg was in town and gave me a number where I might contact him. I did so at once, to learn he was in the army and has a scant one-half hour till train time. I tore to the depot to bid him goodbye, firstime we'd seen each other since the Chicon of '40. Marky was on his way to the land of cotton to be a paratrooper. Pal Earle Korshak, also now a Pvt in Uncle Sam's service, is stationd somewhere in central CA. Rushing back to Morojo's after saying "Gis la revide!" to Marky, whom should I find sittnig at the festive board chewing on the bird but Milty! Pvt Rothman himself! After a wonderful homecookt meal, we decampt across steert to our clubroom were LASFS held a mtg. Daugherty, Morojo, Milty and myself were among those present, plus a duo of new mems in the persons of Portland's (Oregon) two former fans, (that is, fans formerly of Portland): Sidney "Simad" Dean and Mel Brown. Dean and Brown are living in a rm at 1055 Wilshire formerly occupyd by Gus Willmorth. If I recall correctly, Vic Clark and John Williams were also present, and surprise of the evening was the unannounced return from DC of Art Joquel, who promptly announced three fmz in the offing and volunteered to get out a new Shangri-L'Affairs itor inasmuch as he had been out of touch with the club doing for the last 3 mos! What a weird senseyuma abounds amongst the Fangelenos. Something else to be thankful for. Merry splrksk to U all, and a Happy Foo Yr! ---------- The new Fantasite is in the mails now -- might even have reached you before the Bulletin. The issue is the tenth consecutive number, and features material by Dickson, Liebscher, and Brazier. Also included is the famous Hams and Pros, and other features. Bronson just happened to run out of both ink and paper the last few pages, and consequently, had to do them on second-sheets! - in red ink.... But it's a good issue -- we know; we sneaked a look at it while P B wasn't watching oncet! -- jlg
