commentary: -- Very many hanks to all those who were kind enough to send in comments on #1 Tyk. No set number of ratings have been received at this date; consequently, you will find no ratings-result in this issue. However, comments are more appreciated than ratings alone. Please drop us a note on this issue - ed -- Manson Brackney, of 152 Arthur Ave SE - Mpls: My heartiest felicitations are in order for Tycho. I'll rate it starting right with the cover. Morrie has excelled himself - I give any drawing like that 92! And nice lithoing! The contents-page is well-laid-out; only one thing wrong: the red is a bit off-center. 65 for that. The Schultz frontpiece deserves and receives a 65, too. Sorry, John, Garbageman didn't click - I reluctantly give this a 40 - no more please. MacGregor, though I'd read it many times before you published it, rates an easy 80. Controversy! was so-so; gets 60. ' ' An Experiment of Interest -- was of interest. I was struck right between the eyes ... best I've seen in a fanzine. Rates 95. Osterlund finished the issue with a nifty pic which is good enough to rate a 72; and that's pretty good! Hope to see a larger Tyk next time, however..... -- The litho reproduction on covers of last ish and this was done by Assorted Services a'la Ackerman - ed D.W. Boggs, formerly of 2215 Benjamin St NE - Mpls (now in army): Tycho very much resembled Fantasite - it should have been called Fantasite, Jr. (I hope you take that as a compliment - it was certainly menat to be.) The cover by Dollens is almost as good as the one he did for #7 Fantasite. It's undoubtedly the best thing in the issue; give it 80 (using your rating-system which, by the way, I don't like as well as Warner's). Next comes that somewhat unusual tale, MacGregor. The plot isn't much - in fact, it's quite obvious, but the mood is built up compellingly. The story had body to it; something new fantales have. I award it 78. The Garbagemanarrative is good for a grin or three. Not as fully developed as I'd have liked it but definitely worth 60. Award a similar 60 to Schultz's interesting article. Controversy! was mostly outdated stuff, but was nevertheless not so bad; 52. ' Besides the Dollens' cover, the two full-paged illustrations take high ratings. I definitely like Osterlund's pic - it's one of the finest I've seen in months. I'll give it 75. The Schultz frontpiece seemed rather "whopperjawed" to me. Give it 55. ' I liked your double-columns and distinctive title-page. Some of my copy isn't so legible but that will probably be smoothed out next time. ' Verdict: Tycho slender, and not containing much meaty material; was nevertheless well-worth its price. I hope the succeeding is-
