FANTASY FICTIONEER [centered] Official organ of the Illini Fantasy FIctioneers THE VOICE OF THE CHICON! Edited by Sully Roberds 922 West Division St., Normal, Ill. Illini Fantasy Fictioneers Bob Tucker - Director - P.O. Box 260, Bloomington, Ill. Richard I. Meyer -Sec.-Treas. - 3156 Cambridge Ave., Chicago. [line break] Vol. 1, Number 3. March - April, 1940 [centered] IN THIS ISSUE Cover by Tom Wright. Editorial by Sully Roberds "To The Attention of Messers. Moskowitz and Sykern" - a statement of policy. Reinsbergs 'Progress Report' "Filler -- Pure Filler" by Bob Tucker Thoughts from England -by- Ted Carnell "Confucius Korshak Say" -by- Erle Korshak "Utopia with a Barbed Wire Fence" by Bob Tucker Announcement of Booster Ads [line break] [centered]"Blitzkrieg and Beer" Being of that tempramental type who "think with the liver", I can-not clearly focus my mind on a person or group of persons who with hair ruffled not one whit can sit thru a war and cut stencils for a fan magazine. Especially when the war is so important to their future existence, and the publishing effort give so little in the way of plausible returns. On that day in September when Hitler came marching, there was a rumble in English fandom; but after this first eruption there came again that methodical English way of life, their fandom blossomed anew and with the more immenent chance of disorganization today, with the bombing of the Thames shipping and coastal fronts; still from over-seas comes letters and fan magazines. It was once said that "mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon-day sun". Can these actions by Eng-lish fandom be but another confirmation of the "muddling thru" ? [centered] ---- I for my part like salt in my beer, but as to the question "Should the European War be discussed at the Chicon?" - - yes: with a pinch of salt and a case of beer in some hidden corner of the building. As the subject does not pertain to science-fiction it has no place upon the floor, and I am quite sure all fandom will agree in non-recog-nition of any subject outside the fan-field. I'll be "Looking Ahead" to meeting you at the Chicon! [line break] THE CHI CON DEPENDS ON YOU !!
