FFF ILLUSTRATED WEEKLY, PAGE 35 Famous Fantastic Forecast continued from page 33 MIRAGE, This was originally a 5 part story in the old ALL-STORY . This is the 2nd part of the trilogy DARKNESS &DAWN, Finlay will do the cover and PAUL will do the inside illustrations, for BEYOND etc.. The next FAMOUS FANTASTIC MYSTERIES will feature a 40,000 words novel, CLAIMED by Stephens. This will also feature a Finaly cover. Morritt's WOMEN OF THE WOOD is a very good possibility for inclusion in the same issue. Undoubtedly Finlay will do the drawings for that story, especially if it cops the cover. Slated for two issues honco (FN) will be Merritts IMMORTAL "Montal Mondter" fffffffffffffffffffffffffffff FLASH NEWS [Hannos?] Bok will do a color cover for the second issue of STIRRING SCIENCE STORIES. This will not illustrated any scene from the issue. Bok also will do the next WEIRD TALES cover. Robert G Thompson will break into print in the 2nd issue of STIRRING SCIENCE STORIES. When the artist drew up the lettering for the cover of COSMIC STORIES, he used interlocking letters and when the proofs came thru it was noticed that the "s" was half hidden behind the "o" making the title seem at first glance to be COMIC STORIES. As a result the whole lettering had to be redrawn and re-engraved so as there would be no mistakes. Ross Rocklynne has two novelettes LAST OF THE STAR EMPIRE and EXILES OF THE PLANETOID coming up in Planet, Big MAN, also a novelette coming up in AMAZING and, of course THE IMMORTAL (of which FFF informed me) coming up in COMET . SEND YOUR STF NEWS TO FFF. [?3rd] Futurian Editor THE Futurian Society of New York gave its 3rd member to stf editing as Doc Lowndes took over the reins of Future Fiction recently. When asked about the forthcoming issue of Future Fiction, Lowndes' only comment was "I think it will be an improvement." He then added it would have to be seen how this issue takes before anything definite about policy can be determined. Pressed futher as to requirements he remarked "The best advise I can give to new writers who want to break into print is: read as many current issues of stf magazines as you can and note carefully the types of stories make the biggest hit today. That is the key factor. Not the author; nor the plot, but the type of story. A fairly good example of the most popular type is often a bigger hit than a better example of a less popular type; that has often been proven in the past. Thus, find out what those top-typos are today, then write the best example of them you can." In reference to fans. Doc comments: "I think I can depend upon them not to pull punches if I bit a false note; it's perfectly true that they're a minority, but , except for occasional cliques, or pressure groups, they are a very good sounding board for the great mass of readers. I'll be looking forward to letters." Doc has been a avid reader of all stf for over 12 years, and has a remarkable memory for stories and artists; he has been in fandom since 1935. ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff THIS CHRISTMAS ISSUE OF WHICH 500 ARE BEING MIMEOGRAPHED IS BEING MAILED FREE TO ALL MY CUSTOMERS AND SUBSCRIBERS.
