3. Equality, the Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Association. This spring the Committee will present a program on human rights at the annual leadership conference sponsored by the Interfraternity Council and has aided SARE in securing financing for the shipment of books to Mississippi. These actions as well as those of the Student Senate in off-campus housing are illustrative of student activities. 3. Inter-institutional cooperation--The Committee has recommended creation of a separate committee to explore the estab-lishment of a cooperative program with a southern Negro college or university. President Hancher has appointed this committee under the chairmanship of Dean Ray Heffner, Vice-President for the Instruction. Such a program is likely to result in organized exchanges of students and faculty in the mutual interst of the southern institute and the University. Furthur, the Iowa Human Rights Committee, along with the University of Michigan representatives, is urging coordination of similar programs among Big Ten universities, the University of Chicago and Wayne State University as well as periodic meeting of repre-sentatives from these institutions to discuss other means by which higher education can advance the position of minority groups. 4. Community cooperation--The Committee is charged with the responsibility of working with interested groups in the city and state. Accordingly, the Committee has cooperated with Iowa City Ministerial Association in formulation the proposal for the creation of the municipal human relations commission.
