Professor Willard L. Boyd - 3 - March 13, 1963 A. Efforts of a positive nature taken by the local organization or chapter to have the offending provision(s) removed, either at the national conference or convention of the organization; or during the intervals between national meetings. B. Constructive steps, procedures, or corrective measures taken by the national organization at its most recent national meeting in the direction of eliminating any discriminatory restrictions; or any measures adopted that definitely and finally eliminate such restrictions. Any student organizations whose national or local constitution contains a written agreement or policy, the nature of which could be construed to be discriminatory with respect to race, color, or national origin shall be called upon to provide an explicit definition or explanation of the intent of such written agreement or policy, substantiated by written verification from the appropriate officers of the national organization. If, in fact, such a written agreement or policy is found to prevent or restrict the local chapter shall be subject to the making of progress reports as set forth above. Complaints or reports providing evidence that a local organization has been, or is being, prevented from exercising its free choice of members without regard to race, color, or national origin, by reason of coercion upon the local membership in the form of unwritten policies, secret agreements, or other pressures from outside sources, shall be cause for the institution of an investigation on an individual basis by a Sub-Committee of the Committee on Student Life. The findings of a Sub-Committee shall be submitted to the full Committee for whatever action it feels appropriate in each individual case. III. Final Notification of Status In February of 1964, a warning communication shall be transmitted to those organizations which, as of that date, continue to maintain restrictive membership policies with respect to race, color, or national origin. In February, 1965, a final notice shall be sent to the offending organization, indicating that, if as of October 1, 1965, all restrictive clauses have not been removed, its Certificate of Recognition shall be removed by the Committee on Student Life and it shall not be permitted to operate in the future as a student organization on campus."
