The next two nights will find you either attending the President's Open House or visiting the local church group of your choice. Whether your Orientation group visits the President's home on Monday or Tuesday, don your Sunday best, as both President and Mrs. Hancher, plus numerous other officials, will be on hand to greet you. On the alternate night, slip into casual campus wear for an informal evening with members of the local church group of your choice, who will also be holding an open house. You can make a start in making a place for yourself at SUI by attending the Activities Open House Wednesday afternoon, September 19, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union. Representatives of every campus organization will be there to explain their group's purposes and activities, and many of them will be ready to sign you up as a member. You'll just have time to run back to the dorm and eat before the Orientation Recreation Night begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Field House. Recreation Night has been set up for your enjoyment and participation. You'll be able to play basketball, volleyball, or swim; or if you're a natural spectator type, you can watch fencing, wrestling, or swimming demonstrations. You'll have another opportunity to get acquainted with other freshmen and transfers at a dance to be held in the North Gym. Wear bermudas or slacks with comfort in mind, and remember to bring your swimming suit and cap along if you wish to swim. Classes start Thursday, September 20, at 7:30 a.m. but the impressive induction ceremony will begin at 9:25 a.m. on the west approach to Old Capitol. One of SUI's oldest traditions, the induction ceremony is a MUST for all SUIowans. To wind up a wonderful Orientation week, the Union Open House on Friday evening, includes dancing and tours by the Union Board members. The informal gathering promotes more new acquaintances for yoou and gives you a picture of a building you'll be frequenting often-the Union. Your questions will be answered during the week at an Information Booth set up in the Pentacrest, staffed by upperclassmen. If you already have questions, why not get a head start and write a note to your Orientation Leader? Don't be bashful' she'd love to help you. If you haven't heard from her yet, you'll be getting a letter soon. Selected on the basis of interest and ability, this girl is eager to get to know you. SUI has prepared this week especially for you. Through its activities you can build a firm foundation for your future experiences at SUI. Take advantage of these opportunities and before long you'll find yourself singing right along with SUI. 11
