{Rendering of cheerleader in front of crowd, music staff banner above} Hawk-I-Pep Club Your chance to cheer Iowa's football team will come in a big way when you join the Hawk-I-Pep Club. This group plans pep rallies and schedules card section practices and seating arrangements. Direction of these activities is in the hands of the Pep Club Council and its subcommittees. Working with the Council of 17 are the 450 persons holding pairs of card section seats and the 60 persons on the subcommittees. The Pep Council is chosen by a selected group at the beginning of second semester; subcommittee members are chosen by the committee chairmen. Applications are out at the Activities Open House and selection is made shortly after the fall session has begun. This fall the Pep Club will be more active than ever, and a lot of emphasis will be placed on you, the freshmen! The new president and Council have designed an entirely new program to build more spirit on the SUI campus for our Hawks. First of all, 200 seats in the card section have been reserved for freshmen. (In years past all the seats were sold in the spring and freshmen weren't able to obtain them.) There will be a Freshmen Pep Club, with a representative from each housing unit, whose function will be to serve as a channel between the student body and the Pep Club. Through you, the freshmen, the club will strive to increase spirit and will act as a publicity agent. As previously, applications for Pep Club subcommittees will be open to incoming freshmen and transfers. The Freshmen Club will also assist with the stunts on campus, publicizing the football games and building spirit just before a home game. Aiding the Pep Club with its projects will be the Herky Hawk mascot, and a new feature for football games, the Pom Pom Girls. These four girls will lead Iowa songs and greet the cheerleaders from other campuses. If you were a Pep Club member or a cheerleader in high school, or if you just want to take part in building spirit on the SUI campus, the Hawk-I-Pep Club is the organization for you. 19
