Council. Regular weekly meetings deal with problems of specific committees and projects and with new areas into which the organization may expand. The following section of Code for Coeds will outline the various activities of AWS. Remember that AWS is your organization. Take advantage of the Open House this fall to become acquainted with how you may serve the women on the SUI campus; give the group your support and enthusiasm. Keep in mind what the different committees do, for throughout the coming year, as applications are distributed, you may find one or several committees on which you would like to serve. AWS FRESHMAN COUNCIL AWS has reserved a voice in its large organization especially for you, the freshman coed. AWS Freshman Council forms a bridge between the freshman women on campus and the active body of AWS. This group is composed of twenty-one members, each representing a housing unit. During the year these girls learn more about each of the project areas AWS sponsors. They also get practical experience, for each girl has an opportunity to serve on the planning committee of one of the AWS projects. Freshman Council also creates its own projects throughout the year. Last year the council members were hostesses at teas and a state AWS convention, brought the AWS scrapbook up to date, and helped with publicity by presenting skits in the women's housing units. Early this fall applications will go to the housing units, so be sure and be on the lookout for mention of these applications. Selection for the Council will be based on high school activities, service, and scholarship, plus a personal interview by members of the AWS General Council. Two of the main purposes of Freshman Council are (1) to be representatives at large of other freshman women and keep them informed of AWS projects, and (2) to promote special interest and enthusiasm in leadership and activities so these girls will provide future leadership for AWS and other university organizations. CENTRAL JUDICIARY As a coed, you'll be governed by certain rules and regulations for your hours and conduct. These principles are outlined in the "Code of Student Life," which you will find in your dormitory room upon arrival. The Central Judiciary Board, whose chairman is a member of the AWS General Council, helps formulate and administer these policies. Its membership includes representatives from the women's housing units. 24
